Aún faltan algunos días para que sepamos cuáles son las nominaciones para los premios de la Academia de este año, pero los distribuidores y los estrategas están haciendo todo lo posible para mantener sus listas en la conversación. Este es el segundo año en el que se utiliza una plataforma digital para que los miembros votantes puedan proyectar las películas para la consideración de premios. Esto también marca el último año en que los estudios y estrategas enviarán DVD a los votantes de acuerdo con lo compartido por Deadline.

A medida que la industria del entretenimiento permanece paralizada (o funcionando a medias) debido a la pandemia de COVID-19, todas las organizaciones, incluida La Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas (AMPAS), continúan atravesando este momento difícil, trabajando de forma remota y tratando de operar de manera transparente, en un momento en el que decir "no sé" es la norma para cualquier plan en el mundo. Sin embargo, esto no ha impedido que poco a poco aparezcan nuevas producciones en todo el mundo. Para los premios Óscar de este año hay una gran cantidad de títulos participantes entre ficciones, documentales y animaciones, que desean convertirse en finalistas y así recibir la nominación.

En cuanto a las películas internacionales, Deadline señala que hay 93 películas participantes, siendo este el mismo número que hubo el año pasado cuando la industria del cine no tenía este tipo de inconvenientes. La novedad es que a principios de este año, se amplió la cantidad de filmes que podrán entrar en el shortlist, pasando de 10 a 15. Además, según las nuevas reglas, los votantes deberán ver al menos 12 de las películas para que su voto cuente. Parásitos - 100% fue la ganadora del año pasado en esta categoría, siendo la primera en lograrlo con el nuevo nombre.



Por otro lado, ya sabemos cuáles son las películas animadas que podrán ser elegidas para entrar en el shortlist. La reciente ganadora fue Toy Story 4 - 96% y este año hay 27 títulos que esperan conseguir la ansiada nominación al Óscar; las finalistas se darán a conocer este 9 de febrero y las nominaciones se anunciarán el 15 de marzo. Debido a la pandemia de coronavirus, la Academia se vio obligada a mover de fecha la ceremonia de premiación, quizás con la esperanza de que para ese entonces todo sea más seguro. Los Óscar 2021 llegarán a la televisión a través de la señal de ABC en Estados Unidos este 25 de abril.
